About Abby Crownshaw
As a small animal veterinarian, Abby Crownshaw combined her love of animals, science and medicine into the career of her dreams. She first became interested in oncology when learning about tumor-suppressor genes during a cancer biology lecture at UNC-Chapel Hill. She continued to be fascinated by cancer in veterinary school where she researched soft tissue sarcomas and radiation therapy.
Dr. Crownshaw is currently a general practice veterinarian in Durham, NC with a special passion for oncology, palliative care, and shelter medicine.
She shares her home with her husband, Carlos, as well as three dogs (Jasper, Matilda, and Lottie) and two cats (Nala and Sebastian). She is an avid reader and can often be found with a hard copy book, a kindle book and audiobook on the go at any given time. She is obsessed with houseplants and currently cares for over 100 different indoor plants with a variety of philodendrons being her favorites. She loves to travel and has spent some of the best weeks of her life in Guanajuato, Mexico and Edinborough, Scotland.

Dog
Jasper (aka Jasper-Dog or stinky-boy) came into my life around Valentine's day in 2013, and it was love at first sight when my husband brought him home. He was surrendered to the hospital where my husband worked because of a genetic disorder, so his first few months were tricky with a lot of medical care, but he was the sweetest boy through it all.
He loves to play in the snow (a rarity in NC), rough house with the other dogs in our home, and dance with me when fast-paced music comes on the radio. I swear that Jasper instinctively knows my feelings and will rest his head on my lap to cheer me up. He inspired my love and obsession with Golden Retrievers (a breed I swore I would never have because of their many heartbreaking medical issues).
Jasper has never met a stranger, loves all foods except limes and jalapenos, and is the very definition of a "good boy."
