About Demian Dressler
Dr. Dressler is the owner of the accredited practice South Shore Veterinary Care, a full-service veterinary hospital in Maui, Hawaii, Dr. Dressler studied Animal Physiology and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis before earning his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. He is the author of the best-selling small animal health book, The Dog Cancer Survival Guide: Full Spectrum Treatments to Optimize Life Quality and Longevity.
Dr. Dressler moved to Maui when he was just 6 months old, and he grew up on the slopes of the dormant volcano Haleakala. He knew he was going to be a veterinarian before he started school, in part because he loved to care for the many different kinds pets and animals on his mother’s land: monkeys, a basset hound, a lab mix, three Australian Shepherds, several Persian cats, two Domestic Short Hair Cats, a pony, pheasants, doves, quail, peacocks, lovebirds, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, a pig, goats, turkeys, ducks, geese, and more.
Dr. Dressler was active in 4H, and showed his animals at the Maui County Fair when he was young. He helped his mother start Pacific Primate Sanctuary in the 1980’s.
Dr. Dressler graduated from Cornell Veterinary School in 1997. After practicing at Killewald Small Animal Hospital in Amherst, New York, he returned to his home state, Hawaii, to practice at the East Honolulu Pet Hospital before heading home to Maui to open his own hospital. His special interests include laser surgery, new innovations in animal health, cancer, nutraceuticals, and taking information that could help animals from different fields to use in daily practice.
Dr. Dressler consults both dog lovers and veterinary professionals and is sought after as a speaker on topics ranging from the links between lifestyle choices and disease, nutrition and cancer, and animal ethics. His television appearances include “Ask the Vet” segments on local news programs.
Dr. Dressler was the cofounder of Functional Nutriments, LLC, a nutraceutical company, and is the inventor of Apocaps, the first clinical apoptogen formula, and EverPup, a daily supplement for dogs of all ages.
Dr. Dressler is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Avian Veterinarians, the National Animal Supplement Council and CORE (Comparative Orthopedic Research Evaluation). He is also an advisory board member for Pacific Primate Sanctuary.
