About Lauren Harper Barrow
Dr. Lauren Barrow is a small animal general practice veterinarian with a special interest in comparative oncology – the study of cancer in animals and people and how the advancement of cancer treatments can benefit both. She earned her DVM in 2012 from Colorado State University.
As a general practitioner, Dr. Barrow is on the front lines, helping families navigate cancer diagnosis and management, coordinating with oncologists when needed, assisting in making end-of-life decisions, and is often the first to diagnose cancer in the family dog.
As the mother of a cancer survivor, Dr. Barrow has a unique perspective on the relationship between human and animal cancer and its effect on the entire family.
Personally, Dr. Barrow likes to keep busy! She writes and speaks for causes close to her heart, and is a founding member of the Colorado Accessibility Project. She’s always working on a short story, is teaching herself the ukulele, and takes every opportunity to put on her roller skates. She loves taking her 3 dogs for walks through the foothills, cheering at her son’s soccer games, taking her family to the movies, and watching her daughter on stage. Sometimes, she gets to sleep.
My Dog
When I was a teenager, my best friend gave me a shelter puppy for Christmas. I named the scruffy little terrier Holly. She would be the constant in my life for the next 15 years. As I grew from insecure teenager to broke college student, from newlywed to new mother to fledgling doctor, the fierce little dog was there. She was my best friend, my partner in crime, my first baby, the flower girl at my wedding. We lost her years ago, but she's never really gone. Holly was a legend.
